Solinco Mach-10 Review: The Polyester String That Surprised Us

For a long time, polyester strings have had a reputation: firm, spin-friendly, durable… and often, tough on the arm. But Solinco’s Mach-10 aims to change that. With a unique feel that’s both lively and forgiving, this is a poly string that feels fresh — and after some serious court time, we think it deserves your attention.

If you’re a player who wants spin and control, but doesn’t want to sacrifice comfort, Mach-10 might be the string you’ve been waiting for.

First Impressions

The first thing you notice when stringing Mach-10 is its light blue color and five-sided shape. It has a bit of texture, but not as sharp or aggressive as Tour Bite. It coils easily, doesn’t kink too much, and it’s pretty easy to string compared to some stiffer polys.

Once on court, the response is immediate — no break-in period required. The string feels soft and connected from the first ball, which is unusual for a poly.

How It Plays

We tested Mach-10 in a few different rackets, including the Wilson Blade 98, Babolat Pure Drive, and Yonex VCore 100, at tensions between 22 and 24 kg. The feel was consistent across the board: comfortable, lively, and well-balanced between control and power.

Spin

Mach-10 has excellent snap-back and spin potential. It doesn’t grip the ball quite as aggressively as Tour Bite or Hyper-G, but it still produces easy, natural topspin — especially when swinging fast. The spin is predictable, and the launch angle isn’t too extreme. This gives you more margin over the net without losing control.

Power and Control

This string sits somewhere between control and power. It’s definitely more powerful than something like Luxilon 4G or Solinco Confidential, but not overly springy. It gives you a bit of a “trampoline” effect, especially when striking the ball cleanly in the middle of the stringbed. The sweet spot feels generous, and off-center hits aren’t punished too harshly.

We noticed that on faster swings, the ball jumped off the strings with some serious pop — but the response was still predictable. Players who like to hit heavy, looping forehands will love what Mach-10 offers here.

Feel and Comfort

This is where Mach-10 really stands out. It has a plush feel for a poly — almost like a hybrid, but with more consistency across the stringbed. If you’ve ever found traditional poly strings too harsh on the arm, Mach-10 could be the solution. One of our testers who has struggled with elbow pain said it felt significantly more forgiving than other Solinco strings, especially in longer sessions.

There’s still enough firmness to give you feedback, but it’s never jarring. If you like the feel of strings like Poly Tour Pro or Hyper-G Soft, this is a worthy alternative.

Durability and Tension Maintenance

After 8–10 hours of play, Mach-10 still held its tension quite well. There was some drop-off in the first couple of hours, but once it settled, it stayed consistent. We didn’t experience much notching or fraying, and performance held steady for several sessions.

String breakers may not get as much life as they would from a stiffer poly, but for most intermediate to advanced players, the lifespan is more than acceptable — especially considering the comfort.

Who It’s For

Ideal for:

  • Players who want spin and control but need something more arm-friendly
  • Intermediate to advanced players who hit with topspin
  • Anyone using a modern, semi-open string pattern frame (like Pure Drive, Blade, or Ezone)

Not ideal for:

  • Players who want maximum control with a dead stringbed
  • Flat hitters who want no added pop
  • Players who prefer ultra-stiff strings like RPM Blast or Luxilon 4G

Our Setup Tips

  • Tension: Start around 22–23 kg (48–51 lbs) for a good blend of feel and control
  • Gauge: Available in 16, 16L, 17, and 18 — we recommend 17 for a balance of comfort and bite
  • Hybrid potential: Works well in a hybrid with a soft multi like Wilson NXT or Solinco X-Natural for extra feel and touch
  • Full bed? Go for it — Mach-10 is one of the few polys we’d recommend in a full setup without hesitation

Final Thoughts

Solinco Mach-10 is one of the most impressive polyester strings we’ve tested this year. It delivers spin, feel, and just the right amount of pop — and it manages to do all that without being harsh or difficult to control.

If you’re looking for something new to try in your next restring, Mach-10 is a great choice. It won’t transform your game overnight, but it just might help you feel more connected to every ball you hit.

And for players who’ve been stuck between stiff polys and too-soft multis, Mach-10 might be that perfect middle ground.
